What is the value of being a human being

This question just feels so relevant now given the current development of AI. In many ways the world will never be the same as before but for better or worse i think still remains to be seen and depends on how we approach solving difficult societal issues in the next 20-30years.
The core premise i feel is that the human person still has to retain value through creative and technical work. The only way this can be done is if people are allowed the freedom to explore, fail and learn from their experiences. It can't be that we just use AI to reach some superficial goal (making shitloads of money etc) and then later no one knows how we got to that result (or cares for that matter).
If AI is used to maximise certain short term KPI's, this will absolutely tank these experiences for human beings and ruin any meaning in life.
Just wanted to rant
